  • School Day

Start and end times of the school day

Classroom doors open at 8:45am to allow all children to be in the classroom in time for the register. Children will begin their learning as soon as they arrive, and the register will be taken at 9:00am. The school gates will be locked at 9:00amThe end of the day for all pupils is 3.25pm.

Pupils in Robin and Owl classes use the KS1 gates to come through the outside play area and into the classrooms. They are met by their teachers as they enter the classroom. At the end of the day (3.25pm), children are sent out to parents at the same gates, by their teachers.

Pupils in Woodpecker and Buzzard classes use the black staircase into the KS2 building, a member of staff will be on the playground to greet the parents as they arrive and leave their parents. At 3.25pm children are dismissed from the playground by their teachers.

During a typical school week, children will be in school for a total of 32 hours and 30 minutes Monday - Friday.

    Late/Absence Procedures

The school opens at 8.45am and the children can go straight into their classes. The register will be taken at 9.00am every morning and children arriving after the register is taken, will receive a late attendance mark. Pupils arriving after 9.15, and with no valid explanation, will receive an unauthorised absence.

Children often feel embarrassed about entering a class late, they will have missed vital instructions or the start of a lesson.

The end of our school day is 3.25pm.

    Holidays

Taking holidays in term time will affect learning as much as any other absence and we expect parents to help us by not taking children away in school time.

There is no automatic entitlement in law to time off in school time to go on holiday. Holidays in term time will not be authorised other than in the most exceptional circumstances.

    Illness and Other Legitimate Reasons
If a pupil is unfit for school, parents are asked, if possible, to contact the school on the first day of absence by 9.15 am. In exceptional circumstances, further evidence of a child’s illness, such as a doctor’s note, may be requested. Other reasons for absence must be discussed with the school each time; notes will not necessarily be accepted as providing valid reasons. It is not appropriate for the school to authorise absences for shopping, the child’s birthday, day trips, etc. Leave may, however, be granted in an emergency (e.g. bereavement) or for dance/music examinations or medical appointments which take place during school time. The school may ask to see evidence, such as an appointment letter.

If a pupil is absent and there is no explanation for the absence on their return (or after a few days in the instance of a longer term absence) the school will telephone the parent seeking the reason for the absence.

They school may request medical evidence where a pupil has multiple absences due to illness.
