Welcome to Chewton Mendip School PTA community.

We all share a common interest: ensuring that all the children have the best possible experience at Chewton Mendip School. 

Our group of parents and supporters from the wider community works together to raise thousands of pounds each year to support the school directly and impact the opportunities and provisions available to enrich daily life at the school. 

There is no typical PTA member or parent; no one is too busy to make an impact for the better. Mums, Dads, grandparents, ex-pupils' families, stay-at-home parents, full-time working parents, and absolutely everyone in between. Just all like-minded in doing their bit to give better facilities, equipment, and education opportunities.

Whether you could link your CSR opportunities to the PTA, help on a stall, pour drinks at an event, or bring a great idea and run with it to organise a successful event, there really is a place for everyone to do what they can as we continue to invest in the school. 

Events

We are committed to hosting a range of events and activities for the pupils and their families throughout the year. These range from something for everyone, all raising funds or putting on a community event to bring people together.

Soup lunch - think quintessential village hall with homemade soups and cake for lunch with a song or short performance by each class – deliciously cute!

Easter bingo - a total chocolate-fest, full of fun. A not-to-be-missed night with the bingo caller leading a hall full of families winning armfuls of chocolate eggs and even cash prizes. The Easter Bunny even hops in to join in the eggstravaganza!

Springtime Sponsored Walk – Each May, our annual sponsored walk raises funds solely for the school pool. Each child aims to get sponsorship from friends and family to reward them for making as many laps as possible through the beautiful surrounding countryside right on the school's doorstep.

Chewton Mendip Fete – the village comes together to put on a wonderful afternoon of all the best a country fete can offer. Games, BBQ, tea tent and cakes, stalls galore, and a variety of family entertainment.

Sports Day - alongside Wimbledon, Chewton Mendip hosts its not-to-be-missed annual sporting event. Whilst families join to watch the children in their sporting efforts, the PTA offers refreshments, including perfect strawberries and cream.

Fireworks night – the first Wednesday evening of November, we host our most sparkling night of the year. With a showstopping professional display that brings families back long after they leave Chewton Mendip to enjoy the best display in the area. Warm up with the hot chocolate stall, bar, or BBQ with meat supplied from the local butchers. A night not to be missed!

Christmas Wreath Making – A new event in 2025. Where a creative and experienced team takes you through a step-by-step guide on how to make a showstopping creation with a flowing fizz and festive fun.

Impact

We are a listed charity and work closely with the teachers to support activities and purchases that would be tricky to fit into normal school funding.

The fantastic school swimming pool is an ongoing PTA priority. It is normally open between May half-term and the first weeks of September. Children benefit from regular swimming lessons and school families can lease a key so they can swim in the evenings, over the weekends and holidays. It’s an amazing addition to Chewton and a brilliant way of getting to know other families.

In 2020 we did the “Big One” of replacing the computers in the ICT suite. Annual spending includes a Christmas Treat, which this year was a visiting Pantomime; match funding money raised by each class’ cake sale so that Class can decide what they would like to with their earnings. This has included the turf and sheds in Hazel Class outside space; magazine subscriptions; a willow weaving course and the Leavers’ Hoodies for Blackthorn. Regular book top ups, Emotions Management workshops and materials for Arts Week have also been funded recently. PTA is always looking for new ideas so please come to a meeting and join in.

Easyfundraising.org.uk This is a web portal that gives us a referral donation if you then buy through one of the companies using them. This includes thousands of big name companies such as phone and energy suppliers, travel sites like Expedia, Hotels.com and Booking.com plus a number of retailers like M&S, John Lewis, Argos. We are “Chewton Mendip C of E Primary School” and we will post a referral link on Classlist which gives an extra £5 donation for first purchases. Again, this costs nothing.

We also have Preloved School Uniform and a PTA Party Pack of enough reusable plastic plates, cups, platters etc for a party of about 40 children, on hire for £5 + deposit.
