  • School Events

At Chewton Mendip School, our vision is for all pupils to actively engage in activities that will inspire them to fulfil their potential by extending and enriching their opportunities.

We offer high quality opportunities and activities outside the usual curriculum. These activities are an important and exciting feature of school life and contribute enormously to our pupils’ social and academic development. We believe all pupils should experience a range of opportunities beyond the classroom to encourage success. This gives them the confidence to tackle those parts of school they find more difficult.

There are a range of extra-curricular activities on offer, including the more ‘traditional’ activities alongside those that are a little more unusual.

These activities run alongside the use of our outdoor swimming pool, Bikeability for Y5/6 pupils and our own forest school programme. Pupils also attend many trips throughout the year to further enrich the curriculum and inspire their imaginations.

    Arts Week - 19th January 2026

Our Arts Enrichment Week created an excitable buzz across the whole school. With a strong focus on developing skills and techniques, pupils worked predominantly in their sketchbooks before progressing to create final mixed-media pieces. The week began by learning about and responding to well-known artists, helping us explore our theme: “Every Picture Tells a Story.”

Robin and Owl classes focused on the work and distinctive drawing style of Quentin Blake, while Woodpecker and Buzzard classes explored the storytelling illustrations of Norman Rockwell.

This extended week of art allowed pupils to develop their skills in much greater depth than our usual weekly lessons, and gave them the opportunity to experiment with new techniques and materials inspired by each artist’s work.

As part of the week, the whole school visited Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, where pupils took part in workshops linked to our theme. They spent time sketching sculptures, paintings, and exhibits from across the galleries, using these experiences to inform their own artwork.

The week concluded with our very own school exhibition in the hall, showcasing both the finished artwork and the creative journey pupils had taken throughout the week. Parents were invited in, and the children proudly acted as guides, explaining their inspiration and processes.

The feedback from both pupils and parents has been overwhelmingly positive. We look forward to doing it all again next year!

Christmas at Chewton Mendip - December 2025

Our whole school enjoyed a visit to The Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare to watch the pantomime Cinderella. We joined in enthusiastically, cheering and booing in all the right places. Everyone had a fantastic time!

We came together for Christmas dinner, pulling crackers and singing festive songs.

Robin Class have been busy making beautiful candle wreath decorations to take home and share with their families.

    November 2025

We welcomed the chance to listen to a Road Safety assembly during Road Safety Week, organised by Somerset council. The children shared their understanding of road safety and listened to the 'Stop, look, listen, think' guidance to keep themselves safe. They learnt that electric cars are quiet and so it is important to use all our senses when crossing roads and to make sure they are respectful as passengers in a car, not distracting the driver.

    Firework Night

Our PTA raised an amazing £3028 organising a superb fireworks display on November 5th this year. A big thank you - we all thoroughly enjoyed it!

    October 2025

    World Mental Health Day

On Friday 10th October, we joined the campaign to fight for mental health today and inspire a brighter tomorrow by dressing in Yellow. Each class took time out of their usual routine to focus on wellbeing as well as being outside in the fresh air, and cleaning our school environment.

Woodpecker class and our library had a fresh coat of paint and looks much brighter and more inviting for the children. We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the parents who kindly gave their time last weekend to redecorate two of our classrooms.

Many of our Upper KS2 pupils took part in Bikeability, practising their bike and road safety skills across two days.
