Buzzard Class had an inspiring visit to the Houses of Parliament, where they learnt about the history of the UK government and explored how laws are written, debated and passed. They were able to go inside both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, giving them a real insight into how decisions are made at the heart of democracy.
During a workshop, they took on the role of MPs and voted ‘Aye’ or ‘No’ on a range of proposed laws, experiencing the processes that real MPs follow. They were also joined by our local MP, Tessa Munt, who answered their questions and helped them to understand more about her role. This visit linked closely with our teaching of British Values, particularly democracy, the rule of law and mutual respect, bringing these concepts to life in a meaningful and memorable way.

Our Year 2 and 3 pupils in Owl Class visited the Radstock Museum to learn about life in Victorian times. Pupils and teachers fully embraced the experience by dressing in Victorian-style clothing for the day. The children explored what life was like for Victorian school children, discovered the harsh realities of the workhouses and mines, and even experienced buying sweets from large jars using old-fashioned coins. It was an unforgettable day that brought history to life and enriched their understanding of our History curriculum.
