A look at our learning from Autumn 2a...

We kicked off Autumn 2 with a busy week of extra-curricular activities, including sporting fixtures and maths festivals that many of the class took part in.

In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions—finding equivalents, ordering and comparing them, and adding and subtracting them—as part of developing the strong fractional knowledge expected by the end of Upper KS2. In English, we explored Clockwork by Philip Pullman and used it as inspiration to write suspense stories and newspaper reports, helping us develop the ability to write for different purposes, use varied sentence structures, and build detailed, engaging narratives.

We have begun new units in Geography, learning about the Alps, which supports pupils in Upper KS2 to study European regions and understand key physical features such as mountain ranges. In Science, we are studying mixtures and separation, building our understanding of how materials can be combined, changed and separated using different scientific processes. In Computing, we have started learning about video creation, developing skills in planning, creating and evaluating digital content.

In Art, we have begun exploring colour mixing and mark making as preparation for creating biome collages, developing our ability to use a range of techniques and materials to express ideas. We had a great time making shepherds and sheep for our Eco Art project and are now preparing for a busy few weeks of Christmas events.
