What we've been up to so far this term...
We've had a very busy first few weeks full of lots of new learning.
This term's History topic is: What was life like in Tudor England? We have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about Henry VIII and all his wives! We've used primary sources, including pictures drawn at the time, to interpret whether Henry was a fair ruler or a tyrant; investigated what Henry was looking for in a wife; and made deductions about Anne Boleyn using letters and pictures.
In Science, we have begun learning about light, including how we see and how shadows are produced. This has been achieved by carrying out experiments using torches to show how light travels; investigating how to change the size of a shadow ;and measuring and recording how the distance between the object and the surface affects the size of a shadow.
In Maths, we have been working on place value as well as addition and subtraction, while also concentrating on the presentation of our books. We have focused on the value of numbers up to 10,000,000 and how we round numbers. We have learnt how to use the formal methods of addition and subtraction to effectively calculate larger numbers.
In English, after recapping sentence structure, we have started reading Holes by Louis Sachar and writing character descriptions of Stanley Yelnats. This has been achieved by learning how to use dashes for parenthesis and including expanded noun phrases in our sentences.
PE has been all about football, learning about passing and attacking play.
In DT, we have started investigating motorised systems ready to make our own doodlers! We started by making electrical circuits to see how motors work. We then looked at a range of pre-made doodlers with different features to discover which feature will work best for our own designs.
On Fridays during golden time, we have introduced a table tennis league to practise our skills and compete with each other.
