  • November update from Woodpecker Class

Over the past month, Year 4 have been busy exploring a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.

In English, we have been reading the humorous book Dear Mrs. LaRue, which inspired us to write our own letters to one of the characters in our guided book, the beautifully written novel The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We wrote letters from Edward, the main character using clear structure and descriptive language. We also focused on plural punctuation, learning how to form and use plurals accurately in our writing.

In Maths, we have been developing our multiplication and division skills. Through practical activities, problem-solving, and reasoning challenges, the children have been working hard to build confidence and fluency with these key operations.

Our Science lessons have centred around the topic of light and shadow. We investigated how shadows are formed, explored how they change throughout the day, and learnt about reflective surfaces and how light travels. The children particularly enjoyed carrying out hands-on enquiries with the torches and mirrors!

In Art, we studied the work of Henri Rousseau, taking inspiration from his vibrant jungle scene. We also explored the recycled-material sculptures of Robert Bradford, which helped guide our own eco-art project. During Computing, we created our own flick books, helping us understand animation, sequencing, and how images create the illusion of movement.

In PE, we have been learning and performing a dance routine based on the upbeat song Club Can't Handle Me. The children have worked collaboratively to develop timing, expression, and confidence in performance.

We have continued with our weekly string lessons, where the children are making fantastic progress in both their musical technique and playing together.
