  • Autumn 1 in Woodpecker

Woodpeckers have had such positive and enthusiastic engagement in our busy new year

We have moved upstairs, and are working really well in our new room, particularly enjoying our standing desk spaces, and break out spaces. We are incredibly grateful to the parents who have painted our room.

English has been all about Ernest Shackleton and his exploration of Antarctica. The facts that are being stored away about Endurance are gold! We have created one pagers and written letters from the crew.

Our work on presentation has really paid off, our books are looking beautiful.

On a Monday we are joined by Year 3 for Science, this term we are looking at Forces and Magnets, we have completed a number of experiments, related to pushes and pulls and friction. We used balls, cups and strings to explore push and pulls. We measured how far disks with sandpaper and smooth disks travelled with relation to friction. We have started to record our findings and write up our method.

In Maths we have concentrated on Place Value working up to 10,000 and are have moved onto addition and subtraction, where we are employing exchanging across the columns.

String lessons have started! Each child has chosen either violin or cello to learn this year.
