    Autumn Term Update

We had a fun time on World Mental Health 'Hello Yellow' Day. We all dressed up and raised money for the Young Minds charity.  We talked about ways to help ourselves and support each other when we are sad or worried.

In English, we wrote our own adventure stories inspired by the book 'Rescue on Nim's Island' by Wendy Orr.  We focused on structuring a story in paragraphs, including opening, build-up, problem, resolution and ending.  The children also worked hard on using exciting vocabulary and description, as well as presentation, with many developing their joined-up handwriting.

In maths, we have been focussing on addition and subtraction, which has built on our place value work earlier in the term.  The Year 2s have been revising their number bonds to ten and then twenty to help them with their calculations.  The Year 3s have started to add and subtract across tens and hundreds boundaries, using a range of methods to support, including dienes blocks and number lines.

In art, we have been working on a range of water colour painting techniques such as 'graded colour washing' and 'glazing'.  We have also been sketching and painting fruit and vegetables, plants and trees, which were also used to decorate the church for our harvest festival service.

In PSHE, we have been looking at different kinds of relationships and particularly at understanding how all families are different.  The children have been talking about their own families and identifying similarities and differences as well as discussing how family members and friends should treat each other.
