Music

To enrich our music curriculum, all pupils are invited to take part in singing at fetes and celebrations. We hold Chewton's Got Talent every year, where the children can show a wide variety of skills, including piano, violin pieces and songs. Within the school, there have been choirs and a recorder ensemble offered at lunchtime, a Singing for Fun club is beginning in the Summer 2 term. Every Friday Year 4 has strings lessons, and then small group and individual lessons are also offered with Charlotte Sloane-Hill. Throughout the year we hold music assemblies for our string instrument students and pianists to showcase their work to families and their peers.

July 2026

Our Year 4 pupils were delighted to perform in a special whole-school music assembly alongside children from across the school who receive weekly individual piano and string lessons. Parents of the performers were also invited to join us, making it a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the children's musical achievements and growing confidence as performers.

For our Year 4 pupils, the performance showcased the musical knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the year in line with the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum. Through learning to sing and play with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression, the children demonstrated their understanding of rhythm, pitch and dynamics, performing as part of an ensemble while listening carefully to one another. They also developed their ability to appreciate and evaluate music through regular opportunities to rehearse, refine and perform.

For those receiving weekly individual piano or string tuition, the assembly was a chance to celebrate the progress they have made through their dedication and practice. Performing to an audience helped to develop their confidence, resilience and musicianship, while giving them the opportunity to share their talents with friends, family and the wider school community.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Charlotte for organising this wonderful event and for her dedication in teaching and encouraging the children throughout the year. As always, the performance was a proud reflection of the commitment, perseverance and enthusiasm shown by every pupil involved, and a fitting celebration of the musical journey they have enjoyed this year.

December 2026

We benefited from visits by a local choir, Village Voices, and in March 2026 we took part in an Opera, The Team Mascot, based on The Daughter of the Regiment by Donizetti, which was arranged through Jackdaws Music Education Trust.
