The rest of our first half-term...
We ended the half term with an inspiring trip to the Wells Festival of Literature, where we listened to author Sam Sedgman share how he creates his books. We all enjoyed the opportunity to purchase signed copies of his stories, deepening our love of reading and appreciation of authorship — supporting our progress in English reading and literary appreciation.
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of formal written methods for multiplication and division, including tackling long division. This has strengthened our fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills in line with National Curriculum Number and Calculation objectives.
In English, we have continued studying Holes by Louis Sachar. We produced persuasive booklets about Camp Green Lake, wrote diary entries from Stanley’s perspective, and even used AI tools to generate character images — helping us to refine our descriptive writing and explore how language can shape readers’ imagination. These activities support writing composition, grammar, and digital literacy outcomes.
In PSHE, we have been exploring the topic of Families and Relationships, learning about the importance of friendship, respect, and understanding different types of families. We also discussed marriage and how to recognise and respond to bullying, both online and offline. This learning supports the RSHE curriculum aims of helping pupils develop healthy relationships, show respect for others, and build the confidence to seek help when needed.
In RE, we have been exploring Christianity, focusing on what God is like through our surroundings, the Bible, and the life of Jesus. We also took part in the Harvest Festival and led our church class assembly on the Parable of the Sower, supporting our understanding of religious beliefs, symbolism, and community values.
In Computing, we have investigated networks and systems, learning how search engines operate and how they find and rank results — developing our computational thinking and online information literacy.
In Music, we learned to sing Hey Mr. Miller in a three-part round, enhancing our performance, listening, and teamwork skills in line with the Music curriculum’s focus on singing and ensemble work.
Finally, in Design and Technology, we completed our motorised doodlers, applying our understanding of mechanical systems and design processes to create functioning models — a great example of creativity and engineering in action!
