Year 1 and Year 2
Hedgehog class is taught by Joy Shimmin who is supported by Fiona Liddle and Vicki Amos, our Hedgehog Teaching Assistants. The class is made up of Year one and two pupils. We learn through our topics which cover science, history and geography. This enables us to explore our interests as well as meeting the needs of the National Curriculum, and is a particularly effective way of capturing the children’s enthusiasm and love of learning.
We enjoy using the school grounds and resources for PE, swimming and dance as well as to support our learning in interesting ways (going on walks for writing inspiration or investigating the local woods during Forest school). We invite visitors into our class to extend our learning as well as going on relevant school trips; for example: Hedgehogs recently visited Carymoor Recycling Centre to find out more about how we can help to take care of our amazing planet.
Hedgehog Class is always buzzing with learning and excitement and in the afternoons there are always opportunities to calm down and reflect with some music and mindfulness colouring activities.
