Year 1 and Year 2
Hedgehog class is taught by Lana Fairington who is supported by Fiona Liddle, our Hedgehog Teaching Assistant. The class is made up of year one and two pupils. We learn through our topics which cover science, history and geography. This enables us to explore our interests as well as meeting the needs of the National Curriculum, and is a particularly effective way of capturing the children’s enthusiasm and love of learning.
We enjoy using the school grounds and resources for PE, swimming and dance as well as to support our learning in interesting ways (going on walks for writing inspiration or investigating the local woods during Forest school). We invite visitors in to our class to extend our learning as well as going on relevant school trips; for example: Hedgehogs recently enjoyed a fantastic and educational visit from a local fireman, to complete our Great Fire of London topic!
Hedgehog Class is always buzzing with learning and excitement, but in the afternoons there is always the opportunity to calm down and reflect with some children’s yoga or mindfulness, it is a wonderful class to enjoy each day!
